Lately we have seen a high surge in kidney diseases across the world. Lifestyle related diseases such as heart ailments, obesity, hypertension and diabetes lead to early onset of kidney failure. There are other factors too that leads to kidney diseases such as use of modern medicine, high use of sugar and salt in ultraprocessed food, smoking, alcohol, substance misuse, use of chemical and pesticide in agriculture and industry and pollution.

This book is written by Vasundhara Raghavan who heads the NGO Kidney Warriors Foundation. The book explores the lives of kidney patients and contains several real life stories of kidney patients, guidelines from the experts for kidney care, the trusts and organizations involved for organising treatments.

The entire book is divided into twelve random categories. It explores the knowledge of chronic kidney disease in depth. In this book we read about the real life stories of people dealing with the disease, initiatives taken for the prevention of disease, creating a strong support network for kidney patients and their families. How mental health is also important along with physical health.

The book provides detailed and insightful information on kidney diseases. The true stories of battle and survival and the challenges faced by them. We also come across some heartfelt real life experiences of patients who are still living with the chronic kidney disease awaiting for a miracle to happen while other patients who had their kidney transplant and are now leading a normal and healthy life. We also find education and guidance for patients and their families which are important for dialysis patients.

In this book we also find details about some dialysis programmes run by public and private sectors and organ donation. The names of the different trusts and organization involved in improving awareness, prevention and support services by the foundation is also provided.

This is a handbook and an eye opener for others to navigate through kidney related problems. The alarming rate at which the disease is progressing precaution is the only way to prevent it.
