Karma by Abhirup Dhar


Horror is the term used to evoke fear, terror and shock in one self. In the era where horror is loosing its charm, Author Abhirup Dhar has come up with a set of new titles instantly catching our attention while his writing style keeps us hooked on to them.


Karma is the newest addition to his collection. The setup of the story is in the queen of hills, Darjeeling which offers picturesque views to the readers. A short yet very powerful novella.


Arnab along with his family has recently shifted to Darjeeling. He has setup his new business there with the prospect of a brighter future for his young son Ricky. After some days both the parents had to leave Ricky alone in the house in the care of his nurse. Thus began the occurrence of unnatural events in his new house.


The story will churn your mind while giving you goosebumps. I was reading it during the night and had to switch on the lights still felt someone peeping around the corner. Such is the effect of the author's words. The switching of past and present was remarkable.


The story will trick your mind and make you lost within it. The fear and horror will haunt you long after you have completed reading it. Mirrors and Surfaces of water are said to be gateways to the other world. I am still terrified while mentioning this here. The climax pulls up a realisation for us.


The writing style of the author simple yet subtle. The author has precisely constructed the story within different time frames.


Mystery unfolds in the end making you reflect upon it. A story engulfed with time loop. A must read for horror fans.
