Democracy represents a system of government which is " of the people, by the people and for the people ". It is the backbone of our country which comes from the power of the common man.

India direly needs democracy is written by Dr Triyugi Prasad. The book belongs to political genre. It focuses on the economic, political and social development of India since independence.

The author has shown his displeasure with the current progress of India. India has not attained the position which was actually targeted for. Many sections are still suffering under poverty and malnutrition. The reasons behind this drawback is corruption, exploitation, selfish gains etc flourishing in our country. Still many places lack the basic necessities such as water resources, adequate electricity and employment.

The author further states that how the vision of Mahatma Gandhi for village self governance has not been fulfilled. India has not been able to fully come out of colonial past. We are termed as a democratic country but not one in true meaning.

It is a thought provoking book which tends the readers to think in a definite direction. It is a informative and insightful book. It showcases the true facts of our country. At this junction we seriously needs to recognize our drawback and work towards the betterment of our country. This way our country will develop and prosper.
